Mikael Selander is the founder and CEO of Vendion. Before founding his third restaurant platform, he spent seven years as CEO of Ancon, from 2015 to 2021. His responsibilities combined business leadership, product ownership and interface design.
From information systems to product leadership
Mikael grew up in Lysekil on Sweden’s west coast. He graduated in information systems in 2007 and went on to work in IT, project management and sales. He joined the POS company in 2014 and became CEO in early 2015.
In a Finanstid interview published in November 2021, he described his responsibility for product development and long-term strategy. That combination of product decisions and business leadership is a continuing thread in his work.
2016: a platform combining local operation and the cloud
As CEO, Mikael brought Ancon G2 to market in 2016. The platform combined local operation with cloud features. He initiated the product, served as product owner and designed the interfaces used by restaurant teams.
The work involved turning restaurant workflows into product requirements and following the platform through development and launch. Orders, kitchen communication and payment all had to make sense as parts of the same working day.
2020: the next generation, fully in the cloud
Mikael then led the design and product development of Ancon Cloud, a fully cloud-based POS platform launched in 2020. He remained CEO throughout development and launch.
Development was a team effort. Technology partner Calcey’s account of the collaboration describes Mikael, the company’s CTO, its in-house engineers and Calcey’s developers working on the next generation of POS infrastructure. It also records three DI Gazelle Awards for the company.
Vendion: a third platform with a broader purpose
Mikael founded Vendion to bring more value to restaurant owners through a broader platform. POS, table reservations, staff management, marketing and analytics work together in one system, with AI assistants for owners, staff and guests.
The experience carries forward in the understanding of restaurant workflows, product design, development and operations. Vendion is a new company and platform, built around its own product direction. Operational reliability is its highest priority.
The platform launched for Swedish restaurants in 2026. Explore Vendion’s POS system or meet the team.
